No more OpenDNS

Friday, June 20th, 2008

After some encountering some problems using YubNub that I previously linked to the NoScript extension of Firefox, I noticed that OpenDNS might be the root of the problem. Initially, it was the anti-XSS feature of NoScript that was blocking the request.

The problem was: Some of my google searches being directed from YubNub, were being redirected to OpenDNS’s searches, which churned out useless results. I was using the “amr” command for searching Amazon Reviews.

Then I found these two forum threads.

That’s it for OpenDNS. I’m extremely irritated by this. I don’t like the idea of being under SingNet’s unreliable DNS. But this is extremely intolerable. It’s stupid. Now it’s time to look for a real Open DNS service.

Crap.

Leech sucks

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I just want to say Leech sucks.
I had two downloads ruined by it already. Almost completed downloads that failed because my wifi connection dropped. Failed downloads shouldn’t get auto-ABORTED. The file was immediately deleted after it was “aborted”.. Which I didn’t abort it but then it just did it itself when it should just save the file till when the connection comes back up again. What kind of !@#(!)@*#($ lousy download manager is that. And their stupid help forum isn’t up.

Lame. Removed the app.

Adobe AIR SDK

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I just setup Adobe AIR on my computer and I was like “WOW”.

What a cheap thrill.. Lol.

Here’s what I did.

I dragged everything in the “Adobe AIR SDK” image into a folder called “airsdk” in the “Resources” folder in my user directory (Home) .

Open Terminal. Type (while making sure you’re in your user directory) and press return :
echo 'export PATH="$PATH:/Users/<<username>>/Resources/airsdk/bin"' >> .profile
(<<username>> refers to YOUR username, of course)

Close and re-open Terminal. Type “adl -help” (without the quotes) and press return. You should see the usage help yep.

Done.

LCD Settled.

Monday, May 12th, 2008

In the end, I bought the Dell 2007FP 20″ UltraSharp Flat Panel LCD Monitor.
It’s basically a cheaper version of the Apple Cinema Display 20″. That’s assuming I got the LG.Philips S-IPS (LM201U05) version rather than the S-PVA version (which isn’t that bad either).

Oh well. It’s a freaking expensive 20″ monitor. I hope it’s worth it. It’ll give me a taste of the Apple Cinema Display alright.

I had 2 options in mind, initially. Option 1, get a cheap one that just looks nice but not for really serious stuff: Dell E228WFP 22″ monitor. Option 2, get a not so cheap one that has some features: Dell UltraSharp 2208WFP 22″ monitor. I ended up with Option 3, which was an expensive but good one, which actually costs more than the 22″ monitors.
It’s one of those monitors that you’ll hear people saying “you get what you pay for”. I wonder if that’s true. I shall find out myself when it gets delivered over.

One thing though, it’s not a widescreen monitor. When the Dell website didn’t have the stock for the widescreen version, I realised I could use a non-widescreen version anyways, since I’ll be doing some coding. It’s a serious monitor haha.

:’( Money into their pockets. Oh well. Give me moneyyyyyyyyy… Someoneeee… Haha. It’s the root of all evil. :|
