The Singapore Presence

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I’m thinking of starting a blog or directory or wiki sorta thing to track the presence of Singaporeans in web communities.

I just thought of this after seeing that Singapore has more than 100 shops on Etsy.com. And they’re not inactive. It’s amazing that we have such a presence on a Brooklyn-based startup and I haven’t even heard of the company before till just now. I’m probably out of the loop for this kinda stuff, handmade and probably more for girls, but it’s just amazing.

I just bringing the Singaporeans on the web together. Whether there’s a logical or practical purpose in that, I’m not too sure.

About ScribeFire

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Hmm.. While blogging my previous entry… I noticed that ScribeFire doesn’t handle multi-line preformatted text properly for some reason. I wonder what’s behind that. Forget that. Might’ve been some fluke. Weird.

Also, the Add a Link keyboard shortcut doesn’t work properly. The Ctrl M doesn’t do anything at all and Cmd M just minimizes the window (I’m on a Mac and it’s supposed to do that). If ScribeFire is opened in a window of it’s own, then Cmd M works. (but in a way, that breaks the window minimizing shortcut)

I also don’t like the fact that you can’t change the default font of the text you blog in.

No more OpenDNS

Friday, June 20th, 2008

After some encountering some problems using YubNub that I previously linked to the NoScript extension of Firefox, I noticed that OpenDNS might be the root of the problem. Initially, it was the anti-XSS feature of NoScript that was blocking the request.

The problem was: Some of my google searches being directed from YubNub, were being redirected to OpenDNS’s searches, which churned out useless results. I was using the “amr” command for searching Amazon Reviews.

Then I found these two forum threads.

That’s it for OpenDNS. I’m extremely irritated by this. I don’t like the idea of being under SingNet’s unreliable DNS. But this is extremely intolerable. It’s stupid. Now it’s time to look for a real Open DNS service.

Crap.

Suggestion for Google Notebook

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

I just sent this to Google Notebook via their feedback box.

I would like to see some common interface capabilities.

- Resizeable/”Hide-able” left sidebar (as seen on Google Reader)

- Options to disable keyboard shortcuts (on the mac I’m unable to navigate the text using Option Left or Right or Command Left or Right, I can’t move to start/end of the line or navigate by word)

- Options to hide the Formatting toolbar.

Another feature I would like to see is the integration with Gears. That would make it so cool. :) And it makes sense to have notes kept on the computer.

Thanks!
I love the Google Notebook application and I just want to make it even more usable for myself and everyone else. :)

Back to work.
